A library worth looking at

Most book trackers are a spreadsheet with a cover thumbnail glued on. Now Reading is built the other way round: the art comes first, and the app rearranges itself around whatever you happen to be reading.

Every screen wears its cover.

Open a book and the app changes clothes. Now Reading pulls the palette out of the cover art and rebuilds the entire backdrop from it — a shipwreck at sea turns the shelf green and grey, a space opera sets it on violet. There is nothing to pick and nothing to configure. It just matches what you’re holding.

Sampled from the cover of The Wager

The shelf view: a full-size cover of The Wager on a green and teal backdrop drawn from the artwork.

A page per book, in its own colors.

Every book gets a real page — progress, rating, session history, time left to finish — with the rest of the series fanned out behind the cover so you can see where you are in it. Start a reading session from the same screen you were already looking at.

Sampled from Endymion, book three of the Hyperion Cantos

The book page for Endymion, the Hyperion Cantos stacked behind it, on a violet and magenta backdrop.

Streaks are the whole trick.

A daily goal in minutes, a yearly goal in books, and a chart of every page you have actually turned. Miss an evening and you will know about it. Reading is far easier to keep up when something can prove to you that you’re doing it.

The one screen that doesn’t borrow a cover

The stats screen: books finished, pages, hours and streak, a daily minutes goal, a books-per-year goal, and a month of daily page counts.

Your shelf, your editions.

Hold down any cover to swap it. Now Reading goes looking across editions, printings and languages, ranks what it finds by resolution, and hands you the sharpest art available — so the paperback on your nightstand is the one on your shelf.

And everything else it does

Scan a whole shelf

Point the camera at a bookcase. It reads the spines, looks each one up, and shows you what it found before anything is added.

Sessions on the Lock Screen

Start a session and a Live Activity keeps the clock and your page count in front of you while you read.

Keep the good lines

Photograph a page and Now Reading lifts the passage off it. Your snippets stay searchable long after the book goes back on the shelf.

Bring your library with you

Import a Goodreads CSV, scan barcodes by the stack, or restore from a backup file. Export it all back out whenever you like.

Ask about the book

Summaries, background on what you’re halfway through, and a sensible answer to what to read next — without leaving the page.

On every device you own

Your shelf syncs between iPhone and iPad, keeps working with no signal, and catches up when you’re back.

Your next chapter starts here.
